New turf gives you a finished lawn in a day, but it only lasts if the ground underneath is right. Casey Jones lays new lawns on cleared, levelled and properly prepared ground, so the turf roots well and stays even.
Turfing is a good choice after a garden clearance, when an old lawn has become patchy and weedy, or as part of a new garden layout.
Preparation is everything
Bumps, dips and stones under new turf show through as soon as the lawn settles. The area is cleared of old grass and weeds, dug over, raked level and firmed so the new lawn sits flat and has good soil to root into.
Laying the turf
Turf is best laid soon after delivery, while it is fresh. Rolls are laid in a brick pattern with tight, staggered joints so there are no gaps, then trimmed to shape around borders and paths.
Looking after a new lawn
New turf needs regular watering for the first few weeks, especially in warm or dry weather, until the roots take hold. Keep foot traffic light while it settles, and give it a first gentle cut once it has rooted and started growing. Spring and autumn are the easiest times to lay turf because the weather is cooler and wetter.
